IN BRIEF
Founded in 1781, Washington & Jefferson College (W&J) is one of the oldest colleges in America. W&J is an undergraduate, residential, private, national liberal arts college dedicated to developing students one at a time. The W&J experience is characterized by the close interaction between students and members of the faculty.

W&J's 51-acre suburban campus includes more than 40 academic, recreational, and residential buildings. Facilities range from McMillan Hall, built in 1793, to the state-of-the-art Howard J. Burnett Center, completed in 2001. The Vilar Technology Center is scheduled to open its doors in 2003, providing the W&J community with access to excellent technology resources. A 54-acre biological field station is also available for research and instruction.

W&J currently enrolls 1,181 full-time undergraduate students (617 men and 564 women) from 33 states and 7 countries. W&J is located in the city of Washington, a southwestern Pennsylvania community of more than 15,000 people, 30 miles southwest of Pittsburgh

HOUSING
W&J is a residential campus with nearly 85% of students living on campus. Men's, women's, and coed housing options are available. All housing units are data-wired. A new all-suite style residence hall opened in fall 2002. Each suite includes a common area, two single rooms, and one double room.

ACTIVITIES
W&J students can choose from more than 100 clubs and organizations on campus, including seven national fraternities, four national sororities, and a host of volunteer opportunities.

SPORTS
W&J's athletic teams, the Presidents, participate in 23 intercollegiate sports. W&J is a member of the NCAA's Division III. In addition to W&J's varsity squads, 60 percent of students participate in a wide variety of team and individual intramural sports. The Swanson Wellness Center offers W&J students the latest in modern fitness technology.
