IN BRIEF
Point Park University is an independent institution located in downtown
Pittsburgh offering undergraduate and graduate degrees through its
four schools. Founded in 1960, Point Park University is known for
providing its 3,000 students with an education that combines the liberal
arts with career education.
Learning is an interactive process at Point Park University, where
the average class size is between 15 and 20 students. All courses
are taught by full-time faculty, augmented by an adjunct faculty of
working practitioners who bring a knowledge of the professional world
into the classroom.
Point Park's downtown Pittsburgh location means that students are
just minutes away from internship opportunities in a number of fields,
including journalism, the arts, business, and government.
HOUSING
Housing is available to all students upon request. The two dormitories
are in Lawrence Hall and Thayer Hall. Room and Board rates differ,
based on the type of room and the specific meal plan that is chosen.
ACTIVITIES
The Student Activities Office is responsible for the planning of all
activities on campus, as well as the supervision of student organizations
on campus.
SPORTS
There are nine inter-collegiate teams that compete in the NAIA-American
Mideast Conference. This includes men's baseball, men's and women's
basketball, men's and women's cross- country, men's and women's soccer,
women's softball and women's volleyball.
PROGRAMS OF STUDY
The academic offerings at Point Park University are broken down to
four schools. They are the Conservatory of Performing Arts, School
of Arts and Sciences, School of Business and the School of Professional
Studies.
VISIT INFORMATION
The Office of Admission is open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through
Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every
first and third Saturday. Admission interviews and tours of Point
Park University's campus are conducted during these hours.
OPEN HOUSE:
There are three Open House programs and two Accepted Students' Days
held by the Office of Admission each school year. Also, Summer Exploration
Day is usually held at the end of June.
DIRECTIONS TO CAMPUS
From the North
Take I-79 to Exit 72 (Pittsburgh exit) which will take you onto
I-279 South. Follow I-279 South, and look for exit signs for the
Fort Pitt Bridge/Airport. This will lead you across the Fort Duquesne
Bridge to Exit 10 (Fort Duquesne Boulevard). The distance from I-279
South to the Fort Duquesne Bridge is 11 miles. Once on Fort Duquesne
Boulevard, make the first right onto Stanwix Street. Proceed through
four lights, and make a left onto the Boulevard of the Allies. Point
Park University is two blocks ahead at the corner of the Boulevard
of the Allies and Wood Street.
From the South
Follow Route 19 North through the Liberty Tunnels. Upon exiting
the tunnels, you will now be on the Liberty Bridge. Stay in the
right lane and take the Boulevard of the Allies exit. Make a left
at the stop sign onto the Boulevard of the Allies and follow for
approximately four blocks to the intersection of Wood Street and
Boulevard of the Allies. Point Park University is on the right.
OR
Follow I-79 North and take the I-279 Pittsburgh exit (Exit 59A).
Follow I-279 North straight for several miles staying in the left
lane leading you into the Fort Pitt Tunnels. Upon exiting the tunnels,
you will now be on the Fort Pitt Bridge. The left lane turns into
the second-to-the-right lane on the Fort Pitt Bridge. Follow the
sign for the Boulevard of the Allies. When coming down the off ramp,
bear right onto the Boulevard of the Allies. You will come to a
traffic light. Go straight and remain on the Boulevard of the Allies
until you come to the intersection of Wood Street and Boulevard
of the Allies. Point Park University is on the left.
From the East
From the Pennsylvania Turnpike, take Exit 6, Monroeville. Follow
the signs to Pittsburgh taking the I-376 West to the Grant Street
Exit, Exit 3. At the third light, make a left onto Boulevard of
The Allies. Remain on the Boulevard of the Allies until you come
to the intersection of Wood Street and Boulevard of the Allies.
Point Park College will be on your right. (Due to construction,
you can also opt to take the Second Avenue exit and come straight
down the Boulevard of the Allies until you meet Wood Street.)
From the West
From Route 60 South, it will merge into I-279 North. Follow I-279
North straight for several miles staying in the left lane leading
you into the Fort Pitt Tunnels. Upon exiting the tunnels, you will
now be on the Fort Pitt Bridge. The left lane turns into the second-to-the-right
lane on the Fort Pitt Bridge. Follow the sign for the Boulevard
of the Allies. When coming down the off ramp, bear right onto the
Boulevard of the Allies. You will come to a traffic light. Go straight
and remain on the Boulevard of the Allies until you come to the
intersection of Wood Street and Boulevard of the Allies. Point Park
University is on the left.
OR
Take Route 22/30 until it joins I-279 North Pittsburgh. Follow I-279
North straight for several miles staying in the left lane leading
you into the Fort Pitt Tunnels. The left lane turns into the second-to-the-right
lane on the Fort Pitt Bridge. Follow the sign for the Boulevard
of the Allies. When coming down the off ramp, bear right onto the
Boulevard of the Allies. You will come to a traffic light. Go straight
and remain on the Boulevard of the Allies until you come to the
intersection of Wood Street and Boulevard of the Allies. Point Park
University is on the left.
From the Airport
When arriving at Pittsburgh's International Airport, taxi or limousine
services is available to Downtown Pittsburgh. The cost of a taxi
is approximately $30, while the cost of a limousine van into the
city is about $10. The vans go to most of the major hotels.
The Port Authority (PAT) also has a bus available named the 28X

From Route 60 South
