All Carlow women are guaranteed on-campus housing. About 65% of freshmen
live on campus in the college's modern dormitory. Dougherty Hall has
single and double rooms and suites, computer labs, study lounges,
kitchenettes, and laundry facilities on each floor. Plus every room
has access to the Internet, a port for every computer, and cable television.
The dorm building has card access and full-time security, as well
as health services. Franny's Café, a convenient place to gather for
snacks or meals, is located in the dorm complex.
ACTIVITIES
Over 30 student groups on campus give students the opportunity to
become involved in diverse co-curricular interests, including music,
communications, multiculturalism and international, social service
policy, education, nursing and science to name a few.
Community service and volunteerism play an important part in Carlow's
culture, with many students participating in spring break service
projects that have taken them to Arkansas, Ireland, the Virgin Islands,
and Arizona. Popular campus events include a film series, Homecoming,
Founder's Day, St. Patrick's Day celebration and parade, Black History
Month events, Woman's History Month events, and the International
Festival.
SPORTS
As a member of the competitive National Association of Intercollegiate
Athletics (NAIA), Carlow offers five women's varsity sports, as well
as a crew club. The varsity sports include basketball, soccer, tennis,
softball and volleyball. In addition, students can take advantage
of a variety of intramural and recreational fitness classes, a wellness
center, and nutritional counseling.
PROGRAMS OF STUDY
Carlow University grants the undergraduate degrees of Bachelor of Arts,
Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and Bachelor
of Social Work.
Majors are accounting, art, art/art education, art/art history, art
with a certificate in art therapy preparation, art/computer animation,
art/graphic design, biology (with concentration in human biology;
molecular cell and biotechnology; and organismal/ecological), business
management, business management/communication, chemistry, communication
studies, comprehensive social studies, computer science, creative
writing, early childhood education, elementary education, English,
health science, history, human resource information systems, information
systems management, international business, liberal studies, mathematics,
nursing, philosophy, professional writing, professional writing/ business,
professional writing/English, psychology, scientific medical marketing,
social work, sociology, sociology/criminal justice, Spanish, special
education, theology, and theology/psychology. An independent major
designed by the student may also be arranged.
Certification programs are offered in perfusion technology (biology
majors only), school nursing and secondary education. Pre-professional
programs include dentistry, law, medicine, optometry, osteopathy,
pharmacy, podiatry, and veterinary medicine.
The college offers 3-2 programs in engineering in three areas: biology/environmental
engineering, chemistry/chemical engineering, and mathematics/engineering.
In addition, Carlow now offers a 2/2 program in athletic training;
2/3 programs in occupational therapy and physician assistant; and
a 3/3 program in physical therapy.
Carlow offers graduate programs that lead to the Master of Education
degree in art education or early childhood education; in early childhood
supervision; and in educational leadership. A graduate program in
professional leadership, in management and technology or in counseling
leads to a Master of Science degree.
The Carlow Master of Science in Nursing program includes specialization
in home health, geronotology, and nursing leadership and provides
preparation for the for the nurse practitioner program.

When heading west on the Turnpike, take Exit 6
to Pittsburgh. It is about 17 miles from the Turnpike to Carlow. |

After exiting the Turnpike, follow
Route 376 West into Pittsburgh. |

Take Exit 3B Oakland, Bates Street. |
 |
Go up the hill to the 1st light, and turn left
onto the Boulevard of the Allies. |

At the 1st light, bear right onto Halket Street. |
 |
Halket ends at Fifth Avenue. Make a left onto
Fifth Ave. See remaining directions from Fifth Avenue which
follow. |

From the North
 |
From the Turnpike East, take Exit 3, Cranberry
Exit, onto Route 19 South and follow signs to 79 South. |
 |
Once on 79 South, follow signs to
279 South. |
 |
Exit left onto 279 South towards Pittsburgh, until
you reach the junction with 579 South. |
 |
Take 579 South over the Veteran's Bridge. Stay
in the left lane while crossing the bridge. |
 |
Once across the bridge, get in the right lane
and follow the signs towards 376 East, Monroeville onto the
Boulevard of the Allies. DO NOT take the Monroeville exit ramp.
Instead, stay in the left lane towards Oakland. |

Make a left onto Halket Street at the 2nd light.

From the South, West and Airport
 |
From 79 North, or 22/30 East, exit at Pittsburgh,
onto 279 North. |

Go through the Fort Pitt |

Tunnels towards Pittsburgh. Stay in the right
lane. |

Bear right to Exit 6A towards 376 East. Take Exit
2A (about 2 miles) to Forbes Avenue/Oakland. |

On Forbes Avenue, get into the far
left lane. |
 |
Make a left at the 2nd light onto Halket Street. |
 |
Make a left onto Fifth Avenue. See
remaining directions from Fifth Avenue which follow. |

From Fifth Avenue to Parking and the
Admissions Office
 |
At the Carlow marquis, turn right onto the driveway
(Note: If you reach Craft Avenue, you have missed our driveway
entrance, and will need to turn left onto Craft Avenue, and
circle back around the block to Halket and then Fifth).

Once on Carlow's driveway, go up the
hill past Frances Warde Hall on your right. |
 |
Antonian Hall will be on your left. Directly across
the street from the glass entry doors of Antonian, you will
find our admissions parking spaces by the right curb. The curb
is painted red for these spaces. If you received a parking permit
via mail, display it on your dashboard; if you need a parking
permit, come into the Admissions Office to obtain one. |

The Admissions Office is to your right as you
enter through the double set of doors on the 3rd floor (the
entry-level floor) of Antonian Hall. |
 |
If there are no admissions spaces
available outside Antonian, you may proceed up the drive and
park in any space not marked as convent or handicapped parking
(unless, of course, that applies to you). If you need a permit,
please obtain one from the Admissions Office before proceeding
up the drive, so you'll save yourself the walk back to your
vehicle to display the permit |
